East Tyrol – Eisacktal (ITA) – Brenner – Innsbruck

In a total of 17 stages, this alternative route leads from the border town of Winnebach through the Eisack Valley to the Brenner Pass and finally to Innsbruck.

Alternative route 1:
From the Brenner train station head north to the former Brennersee train station, where you change to the other side of the railway line via a tunnel. Then on path 83 (rising) to the wooden chapel “Zum Blinden Herrgott” on the Padaun high plateau and continue on the flat road to the Steckholzer mountain inn in about 15 minutes. Descent via forest path No. 84/82 to St. Jodok.

Alternative route 2:
Coming from the south on the Brenner in the center by the church on the left side of the valley on path no. 1 to the Sattelbergalm. Descent to Gries on path no.80 or to Vinaders on forest path no.81.

Matrei to Innsbruck
Distance: 24.48 km – altitude difference uphill: 1432 m – altitude difference downhill: 1866 m – total altitude difference: 3298 m

The Way of St. James

The Jakobsweg Tyrol leads from Kufstein or Lofer (Salzburg) through the Inn Valley to St. Anton am Arlberg. A second route invites you to hike through East Tyrol. The trails have connections to Bavaria, Vorarlberg, Switzerland or South Tyrol/Italy.
